Uganda held its first ever spelling bee competitions on a national level in June 2011. Numerous schools including Kibuli secondary school, Kibojja secondary school, Vienna College, Namagunga secondary school, and many others had earlier on started the activity though at school level. Our first ever spelling be competition was held in 2010 where a senior four student, a girl emerged out as the best: Katusiime Jonivah enhanced the success of the spelling bee. Later during the same year, a spelling bee club was established and the pioneer of the spelling competitions became president: Hon. Ssebandeke Faisal. It was upon this success that Kibuli secondary school alongside other numerous schools were in June 2011 invited to the nation interschool spelling bee competitions at the national theatre and luckily enough our very own Mirembe Pearl, a senior three student emerged out the best. Looks like Kibuli currently holds its record which not a single person can ever change. From my perspective, girls are ought to be praised most for this success. I don’t think boys can ever undo this record! However top credit goes to Kibuli Secondary School for making all this possible.
